The Moga district police have cracked a blind murder case and arrested three accused, who were close associates of the victim, a man with seven criminal cases registered against him.

The police have recovered the customised pistol and motorcycle used in the crime. According to Moga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal, the matter came to light on May 29. Amarjit Kaur, a resident of Minda Patti, Badhni Kalan, informed the police that her eldest son, Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh, had several cases registered against him and was avoiding staying at home due to fear of arrest.

On the same day, Nahar Singh, another resident of Badhni Kalan, reported that Arshdeep Singh had been shot dead by unidentified persons near Kapure village. A case was registered under Sections 103 and 3(5) of the BNS and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Mehana police station, and an investigation was launched.

A police team tracked down the culprits using CCTV footage and other technical inputs, and apprehended two suspects, identified as Jagjit Singh of Jhandewala and Harkomalpreet Singh of Badhni Khurd. During subsequent interrogation, a third accomplice, Jagsseer Singh, a resident of Kussa village, was also identified.

Further interrogation revealed that deceased Arshdeep Singh and the accused were close friends. The incident took place when the group was returning late at night from the Indergarh fair on a single motorcycle. Upon reaching the Kapure link road, a verbal dispute broke out among the friends. The argument escalated rapidly, causing main accused Jagjit Singh to draw an illegal weapon and open fire, killing Arshdeep on the spot.
