Karnal police on Tuesday revealed the motive behind the murder of a 47-year-old UHBVN clerk Dimple Arora in Sector 9, and said that the killing was part of a conspiracy allegedly planned in Bangkok over a long-standing parking dispute. Dimple was shot dead on May 15 while she was parking her scooter outside her residence.
Police have detained Vikas alias Sanju, a resident of Ladwa in Kurukshetra district, following a brief exchange of fire on the night of May 17. The accused sustained bullet injuries and was undergoing treatment. After being discharged from hospital on Monday, police formally arrested him. Vikas is allegedly a shooter and a parole jumper in a murder case registered in Kurukshetra in 2017.
“The accused Vikas was produced before the court on Tuesday, which granted six days of police remand. During the remand period, we will recover the weapon used in the crime and other related material,” said Rajiv Kumar.
Interacting with the media at his office, DSP Rajiv Kumar said that Dimple was shot dead outside her residence and the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area.
During investigation, the arrested accused revealed that the motive behind the murder was an old parking dispute between the victim and her neighbour, Inder Singh. Both parties had earlier lodged complaints at the Sector 9 police post regarding the issue.
After the death of Inder Singh, his son Vikas, who lives in Australia, allegedly blamed the police complaints and the ongoing dispute for his father’s deteriorating condition and death. The DSP said that during his stay in Bangkok, Vikas son of Inder came in contact with the shooter Vikas and allegedly planned the murder conspiracy, for which Vikas son of Inder provided financial assistance to the shooter before the murder was carried out.
Police suspect that the arrested accused was planning to execute another murder after Dimple Arora’s killing. However, before the second crime could be committed, police managed to arrest him after a brief exchange of fire.
