Unlike most if not all people struggling with drug dependency, former actress Kathrine Luna did not submit herself to — nor was she brought to — a drug rehabilitation facility.
Since she had brought the undesirable habit upon herself, it was Kathrine who single-handedly made a way out of it.
In case you have relegated her name to your memory bin, Kathrine debuted in the indie film “Ang Babae sa Breakwater,” for which she earned accolades for her riveting performance. This was, well, ages ago.
Along the way, by virtue of the genre of movies with which she got associated, Katherine and Coco Martin — then carving a steady niche in indie films — crossed paths in no time, as Fate would have it.Love blossomed. Coco rose to fame while Katherine lagged behind. And admittedly, it was all her fault.
Fast forward to 2025. Katherine’s story caught the fancy of Julius Babao, who’s doing vlogs on the side on top of his broadcast media work.
Julius ran after Katherine, who had bared all — from her drug dependency to her defective eyesight that needed surgery, to her life struggles that could easily pass for a two-part episode in a widely followed drama anthology.
Thanks to artist manager Ogie Diaz — himself also a prolific vlogger — who informed Coco about the heartbreaking Julius-Katherine interview, it beckoned the start of it all.
Katherine owned up to her mistake of tagging Coco as the father of one of her children, Nicole. She also hinted at soliciting help from him.Without second thoughts, Coco expressed his all-out willingness to get his ex-flame out of her woebegone life.
The actor had shouldered Katherine’s eye operation expenses, even giving her a hefty sum with which to start a business.What’s more, Coco had assigned a role to Nicole in “Batang Quiapo.”
Also, Katherine was promised she’d get a part as soon as she completely recovered from her eye operation, although it never materialized.Not only does the soon-returning actress have words of gratitude for Coco, Katherine is just as sincerely thankful to his partner, Julia Montes.
Having totally turned her back on drugs, Katherine says that all she needs is another chance to make things right — from family, fans and folks she had all disappointed.
As willing chance givers ourselves, let’s not make it sound like a pie in the sky.It’s not asking too much, after all.
