IPOH – The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) hopes the country’s top sprinter, Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi, will continue to work hard to improve his performance, despite failing to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim said the ministry would continue to give its support to ensure the Teluk Intan-born athlete gets the best training in the United States.
“We do give him attention and are in touch with him regularly.
“Azeem has also been adopted as a sports icon for the ministry’s programmes, and this is part of our support for him,” he told reporters after launching the state-level Fit Malaysia programme, here today.
In the men’s 100m first round early this morning, Muhammad Azeem clocked 10.26 sec to finish seventh out of eight runners in heat four.
Muhammad Azeem, who was making his debut in the world meet, holds the national 100m record of 10.09s, which he set at the Under-20 World Athletics Championships in Cali, Colombia, in August last year. – August 20, 2023
