Kedah Immigration Department detained 28 illegal immigrants during Ops Sapu raids across Pokok Sena and Jitra.
ALOR SETAR: A total of 28 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were detained during an operation codenamed Ops Sapu conducted at four separate premises around Pokok Sena and Jitra yesterday.
The Kedah Immigration Department (JIM) in a statement said that the operation, which began at midnight, conducted inspections at a workers’ quarters in Jitra; an unnumbered premises on the Bukit Kayu Hitam highway; a premises on Jalan Wang Tepus, Jitra; and a premises in Kampung Jabi, Pokok Sena.
A total of 63 illegals were inspected and out of that number, 28 individuals were detained. They comprised 25 men, two women and a child, all aged between one and 47 years.
“The detainees included 12 Myanmar nationals, 12 Bangladeshi nationals and four Indonesian nationals. All of them have been taken to the Belantik Immigration Depot, Sik for investigation and further action,” according to the statement today.
The Kedah JIM said that among the identified offences were those involving Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 15(1)(c) of the same act.
A Form IMM.29 (Summons to Witness) was also issued during the inspection period to assist in the investigation and further action.
“The Kedah JIM will continue to intensify enforcement operations continuously throughout the state to ensure that foreigners in Malaysia comply with immigration laws and possess valid travel documents and passes or permits,” he also said.
He added that strict action will also be taken against any party that employs, shelters, or allows foreign nationals to stay on their premises without valid travel documents or passes.
