A POLICE investigation into a fabricated kidnapping report by a 14-year-old secondary school student has uncovered allegations that the teenager had previously been bullied at his former school, leading to the detention of four senior students to assist investigations.
Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the Padang Terap District Police Headquarters received a report from the Form Two student claiming he had been abducted by two unidentified men in Kuala Nerang on Sunday before later being found by police at the roadside in Kota Putra, Durian Burung.
The teenager initially alleged that his eyes and mouth had been covered, while his hands and feet were tied before he was abandoned by the roadside. However, police investigations established that the kidnapping claim had been fabricated.
Adzli said the student later admitted inventing the story after becoming distressed and embarrassed when he accidentally entered the girls' toilet at his new school in Kuala Nerang.
According to the investigation, the student encountered several female students as he exited the toilet after they questioned his presence, prompting him to leave the school grounds. He later accepted a motorcycle ride to Kota Putra.
He subsequently pointed to a house and claimed it was his home, but the homeowner became suspicious of the situation and alerted the police.
Further investigations revealed that the teenager had previously been the victim of alleged bullying at his former secondary school in Alor Setar.
Police records showed that he had lodged an earlier report on June 18, alleging that he had been forced by senior students to obtain food for them just one week after transferring to his new school.
Following those allegations, police detained four Form Four and Form Five students from the former school to assist with investigations. They were later released on police bail after their statements were recorded.
Meanwhile, the false kidnapping report is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to a public servant.
If convicted, the offence carries a maximum penalty of six months' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. - July 14, 2026
