More parents in Kelantan have become more aware and have come forward to file reports related to bullying cases involving their children following the death of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir last month.

Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd. Yusoff Mamat, said that his department received five reports concerning school bullying cases in the state within a two-week period.

According to him, after the issue involving Zara Qairina gained public attention, many family members and parents came forward to lodge police reports about bullying incidents involving their children.

“Many parents have come forward because they are now more aware of bullying cases that have been happening recently, and as a result, more police reports have been filed.”

They now understand that bullying is a criminal offense, which led them to file reports. Once a report is made, we can begin investigations into the case,” he said.

“Besides physical bullying, cyberbullying is also gaining attention. In fact, many who previously did not understand the impact of bullying are now brave enough to report cases of bullying,” he added.
