Keningau native court orders man and married woman RM15,000 sogit in 'lapau' case

KENINGAU: The Anak Negeri court ordered a man and a married woman to pay a customary “sogit” of three cattle valued at RM15,000 under the “lapau” case.

The payment goes to the woman’s husband, along with an additional RM4,000 sogit for their two children.

The court ruled the “saman lapau” claim valid, involving alleged interference in an existing marriage under native customs.

Payment must be made within 21 working days or further legal action may follow.

The ruling was based on evidence and upheld under the Native Courts Enactment 1992 and its 1995 amendments.
