KENINGAU: The long-awaited dream of Keningau residents for a modern public transport hub is set to materialise with the State Government’s approval to build the Integrated Public Transport Terminal (Keningau Sentral) under the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026–2030).

Keningau GRS Youth chief coordinator Rafie Robert (pic) said the high-impact project will be fully funded by the State Government to strengthen mobility and connectivity in the Interior region.

He said the 30,000-square-foot terminal will feature covered waiting areas, public toilets, prayer rooms, business spaces, 500 parking bays, and CCTV-equipped security fencing.

The facility will serve as the main stopover for local and long-distance bus routes linking Keningau to major destinations including Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Sipitang, Beaufort, Menumbok, Tambunan, Tenom, Sook, Nabawan, Ranau, and Sandakan.

Rafie added that Keningau Sentral will not only ease travel but also stimulate the district’s economy through small business growth and job creation, reflecting the government’s commitment under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to improve rural infrastructure.
