
KUALA LUMPUR – The Human Resources Ministry (Kesuma) organised the Kesuma Merdeka 118 Vertical Challenge 2026 in conjunction with Labour Day celebrations, recognising the critical role of workers in driving the nation’s development.
Held at the iconic Merdeka 118 tower, the event was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP) and the Kesuma Welfare and Sports Club.
In a statement, the ministry said the event to attracted around 2,500 participants, including Kesuma staff, public and private sector workers, as well as members of the public.
"The programme highlights Kesuma’s commitment to promoting worker well-being, encouraging healthy and active lifestyles, and raising awareness of occupational safety and health," it said.
"The event also aims to enhance the ministry’s visibility through a large-scale, high-profile activity that honours workers as the backbone of the Madani Economy."
A special feature of the challenge is an attempt to break the national record for the “Fastest Man to Run Up the Merdeka 118,” which eas recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records.
The record attempt was undertaken by Soh Wai Ching, the world’s top tower runner.
"Adding to the spectacle, the Deputy Minister of Human Resources and distinguished guests will perform a symbolic climb from Level 100 to Level 118, showcasing commitment to fitness, endurance, and high work spirit among the nation’s workforce," the ministry said.
The event, running from 6.00am to 3.30pm, is set to be a key highlight of Labour Day 2026, reinforcing Kesuma’s role as a leader in promoting the holistic well-being of workers. - May 2, 2026
