DUNGUN - Police have confirmed receiving a report regarding two videos circulating on social media allegedly showing the open sale of ketum drinks at the exit of the Paka Rest and Service Area (R&R) on the Kemaman-to-Kuala Terengganu route.

Dungun district police chief Superintendent Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said preliminary investigations found that the incident was believed to have occurred during the RXZ Members 8.0 gathering, with the location serving as the main route for participants travelling to the event venue.

He said that following the information received, a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Dungun District Police Headquarters (IPD) was dispatched to the location to conduct inspections.

“Checks at the scene found that the alleged selling activity shown in the viral videos was no longer taking place.

“Police take seriously any activities involving the sale or misuse of ketum drinks or any prohibited substances, including drug abuse,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Nik Ab Halim said the Dungun IPD would continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement, particularly at public hotspots and during large-scale events.

He said that if any arrests or seizures are made, investigations could be carried out under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He also urged anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Dungun IPD or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
