Kevin Durant’s reported burner account controversy has been described as a major issue inside the Houston Rockets, with claims it has disrupted team chemistry.

The situation adds another layer to what was already a high-pressure environment following Durant’s arrival.

Instead of stabilising the team, the latest claims suggest internal dynamics may have shifted in the opposite direction.

Kevin Durant’s Rockets role questioned amid team tension

Rockets legend Vernon Maxwell outlined concerns about how Durant’s presence has impacted the team’s style and balance.

“It’s so much s___ going on over there in Houston, man. The Rockets, man, like I said last year, all we need was KD.

“We got KD, a guy to roll the ball out to get you a bucket. But now everybody’s standing around watching KD,” Maxwell said on All The Smoke podcast.

The criticism points to a shift in how the team functions offensively, with less movement and more reliance on isolation play.

That change has become part of a wider discussion about whether adding a high-usage scorer has altered the team’s identity.

Kevin Durant burner account claims linked to Rockets split

The more serious concern raised centres on off-court issues, with claims that a reported burner account situation has affected relationships within the squad.

“They said some s___ about some ‘secret page’ KD did and talked about some of the players on the team, and they split the goddamn guys up and guys don’t like to high five each other no more,” he continued.

“Everybody don’t want to bump chest no more with each other. Everybody just, it’s just split up the whole f______ team,” Maxwell concluded.

The suggestion is that trust inside the group has been impacted, creating distance between players in everyday interactions.

Whether those claims are accurate or not, the idea of a fractured locker room highlights how quickly narratives can shift when results and off-court stories collide.
