Wyndham Clark won the US Open at Shinnecock Hills by a single stroke from Sam Burns on Sunday.

Clark was able to manage the tricky conditions at Shinnecock Hills better than anyone else throughout the week.

The 32-year-old American now has two US Open titles to his name and he will feel very confident in his chances of winning more majors over the next few years.

Wyndham Clark is far from popular, and the fact that he won the US Open while receiving all kinds of abuse from the fans at Shinnecock Hills tells us so much about his character and mentality.

The now two-time US Open champion performed admirably under the most intense pressure, and managed to retain his focus in spite of every single one of his poor shots being cheered by the crowd.

Listening to the US Open crowds abusing Clark was a strange and surreal experience, but the American refused to buckle under the difficult circumstances.

What shocked Kevin Kisner while watching the US Open at Shinnecock

Kevin Kisner was in attendance at Shinnecock Hills last week, working for NBC.

When speaking on the Gravy and The Sleeze Podcast, Kisner responded what it was like to witness the fans’ treatment of Clark during the final round at Shinnecock.

The atmosphere was dead on Saturday,” Kisner said.

I was completely shocked I kept turning around in the booth and was just shocked at how few people were out there.

I know we went on until almost 8.30 on Saturday night.

But Sunday the atmosphere got pretty rowdy. I was shocked at how many people were against Wyndham and, you know, Americans going against an American and the US Open.

I think that’s got a bunch of different dynamics between him, big lead, gambling in golf, kind of the new generation of golf fans.

People wanted to see Scottie Scheffler win Grand Slam. It was kind of a perfect storm against him.

But man, it was pretty rough out there on him.

You know, balls rolling off, people cheering for it to miss, things like that.

You don’t hear that very often, kind of American on American.

Long road to redemption ahead for Wyndham Clark

Clark has clearly made many mistakes throughout his golfing journey, none more so than the incidents in the Oakmont locker room and on the course during the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow last year.

The two-time US Open champion clearly knows he behaved poorly, and it seems like he’s making an effort to atone for his mistakes.

The key point to note here is that he has to be patient.

Those who were immensely offended by his actions in 2025 may not be ready to move on just yet, and that’s fine.

All that Wyndham Clark can do is continue to make amends by producing the goods on the golf course, while acting in a honorable manner.

Whether or not he is able to do that consistently and eventually win back the fans remains to be seen, though.
