Former champion Madison Keys and Tatjana Maria reached the final of the Eastbourne grass court tournament without having to complete their semi-finals on Friday.

American Keys led 6-1 against Petra Marcinko when the Croatian retired injured.

The 2025 Australian Open champion will be bidding for a third Eastbourne title, having lifted the trophy in 2016 and 2023.

"It is bittersweet winning this way," Keys said.

Germany's Maria was up 6-1, 1-2 when her opponent, former French Open champion Yelena Ostapenko, did not return after a rain break due to physical problems.

Latvia's Ostapenko had her temperature taken and blood pressure measured after the fifth game of the first set. Five games later she called it quits.

Maria is a 2022 Wimbledon semi-finalist and won the Queen's Club grass court tournament last year.

"I am happy with my week and to be in the final. I feel really supported here and enjoy it a lot," the mother of two said.

Eastbourne is among the final tune-up events for Wimbledon which starts on Monday.
