Lattes and cronuts might be coming to a KFC near you.
The famed fast-food brand announced Thursday it’s testing a breakfast menu and tableside service at a new concept restaurant opening Saturday in the Dallas suburb of McKinney.
“It gives guests a reason to try us, or try us again, while giving us a real restaurant where we can learn what works for guests, our teams and the business, and scale the strongest ideas across the system,” Catherine Tan-Gillespie, president of KFC’s U.S. stores, said.
Called “Open House,” the location offers morning diners breakfast sandwiches, chicken tenders, hash brown sticks, mini cronuts, hot coffee and iced lattes.
KFC’s push for new menu items and personalized service comes amid its “Kentucky Fried Comeback” growth plan launched in July 2025, which has created three consecutive quarters of sales growth after seven straight quarters of decline.
KFC’s new concepts – including a focus on boneless chicken and dipping sauces – are part of a wider movement among restaurants to stay relevant in a competitive industry.
McDonald’s announced Wednesday it plans to overhaul its menu as part of an $8.5 billion modernization of its restaurants. Part of those changes includes testing hand-breaded chicken at locations across the country.
The company has emphasized its value menu over the past two years, offering affordable options such as a $5 meal deal that includes a chicken sandwich, french fries, four chicken nuggets and a small soda.
“There's that entry-level value, which is the critically important value that you need with that low-income consumer,” CEO Chris Kempczinski said at a company investor meeting Wednesday in Chicago.
“Our base menu pricing is below our competitors on beef, chicken and beverages and breakfast. So we're in a really good spot from a menu standpoint.”
Popular pizza brand Domino’s underwent a significant rebrand for the first time in 13 years at the end of 2025, and announced earlier this year it launched a new website and app.
The company released a new rectangular pizza shaped called the “Domino” in August.
KFC said it will host a grand opening celebration at its McKinney concept store on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST.
The location will be open every day from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. CST.
