SHAH ALAM – Entrepreneur and influencer Khairul Aming has stepped up his response to an alleged personal data leak by lodging four reports with the relevant authorities and issuing a Letter of Demand (LOD) to telecommunications provider Maxis.
In a Threads post on Wednesday, Khairul said his lawyers had sent the LOD to Maxis while official reports had also been lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Personal Data Protection Department (JPDP) and the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD).
He said the police report was lodged to facilitate an investigation into the individual believed to be involved in the alleged unauthorised disclosure of his personal information.
The entrepreneur had earlier questioned how details of his personal phone bill became known to another party before being publicly shared on social media.
He also sought an explanation from the telecommunications company after the information was allegedly linked to a social media user.
Previously, Maxis had identified the individual allegedly involved in the unauthorised access of a customer's account details that had circulated widely on social media since Monday. The company said immediate action was being taken against the individual.
Khairul said his legal team would now handle the matter until its conclusion.
"My lawyers will take over this case until it is resolved. Honestly, I feel sad and terrified that personal privacy can disappear so easily.
"Phone details, payment history, subscription records, even my identity card number that can be used to access MySara, everything was leaked,” he wrote on Threads.
