GILAS Pilipinas Boys star guard Kieffer Alas has committed to the Ateneo de Manila University, joining the Blue Eagles program for the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament.
The 18-year-old, 6-foot-2 guard made the announcement in a social media post on Tuesday.
“Homecoming,” Alas captioned a graphic of him photoshopped in an Ateneo jersey with the poster also featuring “Kieffer Alas commits to Ateneo de Manila.”
Alas poured in 15.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game at the FIBA U-16 Asian Championships in 2023, leading Gilas Boys to a U17 World Cup berth.
Last year as a Grade 11 student playing for De La Salle Zobel, Alas captured the UAAP Season 87 Boys basketball Most Valuable Player (MVP) basketball award.
Alas registered 20.07 points, 11.14 rebounds and 4.93 assists in his MVP year.
After his UAAP stint, Alas attended the Utah Prep Academy in the United States to further develop his skills.
Alas’ stint led to offers from US-NCAA Division 2 schools but Alas ultimately decided to come home and play for the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
The move also placed him on a team with his father, Louie, who is an assistant coach to head tactician Tab Baldwin.
Kieffer is the younger brother of PBA and NLEX Road Warriors guard Kevin.
