Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano erupted again on Sunday, sending a tall column of lava and gas into the air in its 36th eruption since December 2024. The U.S. Geological Survey said the volcano spewed lava for about five hours, with fountains soaring up to 330 metres high.
An orange aviation code stayed in place as molten rock continued to flow within the summit crater of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Scientists said the eruption posed no threat to nearby communities, as the lava remained contained.
Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, has been erupting at regular intervals for nearly a year. Each event follows the same underground pathway, offering experts new insight into the volcano’s long-term behaviour.
