
RANAU: The Mount Kinabalu Search and Rescue Team (Mosar) had to act quickly to save a climber who suffered from breathing difficulty on Mount Kinabalu last Saturday night.
Head of BBP Ranau Station, Ridwan bin Mohd Taib, said the incident happened in the Panalaban area, Mount Kinabalu, at about 10pm.
“The call was received through the Balai Line at 10.12pm and a team of Mosar members led by Operations Commander, PBB Mauries D Ubin, together with two Kinabalu Park staff rushed to the location.
“Arriving at the scene which is located 4km from the Mosar post, we found that there was a male climber suffering from symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and high blood pressure.

The victim was sent to Ranau Hospital by the EMRS Team for further treatment and the operation ended at 3.35am.
It was the first case for the month of May and the 21st victim of illness or injuries on Mount Kinabalu this year.
In January there were two climbers who suffered injuries, five in February, March (eight) and April (five).
Ridwan repeated his advice for future climbers to do a self-health assessment before making the climb.
He said there must be mental and physical preparation, and only bring along suitable and necessary items.
