LONDON - Britain's King Charles III and Queen Camilla will continue to use Buckingham Palace for ceremonial and public functions after its major refurbishment is completed, but will not make it their private residence, the Royal Household said on Thursday.

According to a statement on royal finances, the King and Queen will continue to host official ceremonies, receptions and other official events at the palace following the completion of the refurbishment project.

The royal couple hopes the palace will remain the ceremonial centre of royal life, the principal workplace of the Royal Household and a national heritage asset offering greater opportunities for public access, the statement said.

The 10-year Buckingham Palace Reservicing Programme is now in its ninth year.

The Royal Household reported almost 97,000 guests attended 827 events at royal palaces during the 2025-2026 financial year.

The Sovereign Grant, the public funding provided to support the monarch's official duties and maintain occupied royal palaces, rose to £132.1 million (about US$174 million) in 2025-2026.

Of the total, £67.5 million (US$89.11 million) was allocated to preserving and protecting occupied royal palaces. - BERNAMA
