In the latest episode of Malaysia’s political soap opera, Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh, the self-proclaimed "King of Boycotts," has launched a scathing attack on Rafizi Ramli, the so-called "Formula King," blaming him for Pakatan Harapan's (PH) defeat in the Sungai Bakap by-election.
Akmal’s Facebook post, which accuses Rafizi of using a "dumb and stupid formula," has stirred up a storm, congratulating Sungai Bakap folks for resisting such arrogance.
“The dumb and stupid formula by the formula king (moniker for Rafizi) has borne fruits in Sungai Bakap,” he took a potshot on his Facebook (FB) page at the PKR deputy president whose party is an UMNO ally in the ruling unity government. ‘Congratulations to Sungai Bakap folks. Leaders mustn’t be arrogant with the people.”
The backlash was swift and fierce. PH supporters and political commentators alike have accused Akmal of acting more like a Perikatan Nasional (PN) stooge than a loyal UMNO member.
Calls for UMNO to discipline this "wolf in sheep's clothing" have grown louder, with critics arguing that his antics are only deepening the fractures within the ruling coalition.
Akmal's potshots at his own government underscore the fragile and often contentious relationships between parties in the coalition.
While the unity government was supposed to signify a new era of cooperation, the reality has been far more tumultuous. This latest incident reveals the deep-seated mistrust and the ongoing struggle for dominance among the coalition partners.
As Anwar Ibrahim’s government grapples with internal dissent, one cannot help but wonder if Akmal’s antics are a deliberate attempt to destabilise his own camp or simply another symptom of the coalition’s inherent instability.
Either way, it is clear that the unity government’s facade of solidarity is cracking, and the fallout from such public spats could have long-lasting implications.
