King of Thailand’s estranged son pleads for return to undergo urgent brain surgery

  • Chakriwat Vivacharawongse, the estranged son of Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has appealed for assistance to return to Thailand for urgent, life-saving brain surgery.
  • The 43-year-old physician, currently undergoing treatment in Malaysia, requires surgery for brain tumours caused by neurofibromatosis type 2.
  • Dr Chakriwat stated that he lacks the necessary funds for treatment in Malaysia or the US, warning that he risks becoming bedridden or dying without timely intervention.
  • Despite public appeals and support from his brothers, there has been no official intervention from the Thai royal household, from which he has been estranged since 1996.
  • He holds no formal royal title, though he previously returned to Thailand in August 2023 alongside his brother for their first visit in 27 years.
