HIS Majesty King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, has called on citizens to exercise heightened vigilance amid a persistent heatwave affecting the country, warning that high temperatures are likely to continue until early to mid-June.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Sultan Ibrahim emphasised the importance of safeguarding public health by reducing outdoor activities in the heat and ensuring adequate hydration throughout this period.
He also urged the Ministry of Education to take proactive measures to protect the wellbeing of students and schoolchildren during the extreme weather.
“At the same time, the public is advised to avoid any open burning, as the combination of hot and windy conditions can accelerate the spread of fire.
“Elderly individuals and children with chronic illnesses should also avoid prolonged exposure to the heat to prevent health complications,” he said.
His Majesty further highlighted the critical role of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department in enhancing preparedness, noting that hot conditions could potentially lead to an increase in fire incidents.
He expressed appreciation for all safety and emergency agencies, including the Civil Defence Force and healthcare personnel, who remain on alert throughout this challenging weather period.
Meteorological authorities, including the Malaysian Meteorological Department, have forecast that the heatwave will persist until the onset of the Southwest Monsoon in June, driven by drier atmospheric conditions and low rainfall levels. - March 26, 2026
