The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Punjab Zone, held a meeting at Gurdwara Baba Umraana Sahib in Sangha village today and announced to hold an indefinite dharna at the SDM’s office here from May 13 against “the widespread corruption in government offices”.

Corruption issue to fore

Leaders said the organisation had brought the issue of corruption in the SDM office to the attention of the authorities many times, but the issue was deliberately not being resolved.

The meeting was addressed by Fateh Singh Piddi, Baljinder Singh Sheron and Nishan Singh Shahabpur, leaders of the KMSC. The leaders said the organisation had brought the issue of corruption in the SDM office to the attention of the authorities many times, but the issue was deliberately not being resolved.

The leaders said 35 villages of Tarn Taran tehsil had been brought under PUDA, in which NOC had been made mandatory for buying and selling land. The leaders said as soon as people go to the PUDA office to get NOC, the PUDA officials refuse to give this to people because PUDA had no dealings with their villages. The leaders said that the land of these villages is bought and sold through corrupt measures. The speakers said the compensation was sent by the government to the farmers for crop damage during 2021 in the SDM office, but was not being given yet to the affected farmers due to corruption.

On the occasion, Sukhdev Singh Shahabpur, Darshan Singh Alawalpur, Gursewak Singh, Harpreet Singh Bengalipur, Lakhwinder Singh Fauji appealed to the people to participate in the indefinite dharna being held here to raise their voice against corruption.

At the meeting it was also discussed that people had occupied the roads built on both sides of the flyover on the National Highway No. 54, against which the authorities were refusing to take action. During the dharna, the organisation will also raise other issues of the people, especially farmers.
