PETALING JAYA: Sacked former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar has hinted that he is ready to return to the party.
In a teaser clip from the Keluar Sekejap podcast, which he hosts together with another former Umno leader Shahril Hamdan, the former Cabinet minister said he had long expressed his intention to rejoin Umno.
“The statement has already been made by (Umno president) Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. This is also related to our own personal stance.”
“Perhaps Shahril has your own position and I have mine. But when such an invitation is extended…I have long said that I wish to return to Umno.
“I see this as a positive development and a sincere opportunity for me personally,” said Khairy, popularly known as KJ, in the video clip uploaded on the Keluar Sekejap Facebook page.
The three term former Rembau MP was expelled from Umno in January 2023 for violating party discipline.
Khairy was responding to a statement issued earlier today by Umno president Ahmad Zahid, who said the party is opening its doors widely for any former members who were expelled or suspended to return to the party unconditionally.
“In the spirit of Ramadan, which is filled with mercy and forgiveness, all past shortcomings and differences are fully forgiven, in order to open a new chapter to strengthen the larger Umno family.
“Umno sees this as the best opportunity to reconnect and reinforce the party’s struggle,” the statement read.
