KK Community Hall restoration not neglected: Minister

Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has assured the public that the restoration of the Kota Kinabalu Community Hall has not been neglected, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin.

He said the Ministry, through the Sabah Heritage Council and Sabah Museum Department, is working closely with the City Hall (DBKK) to ensure works comply with heritage conservation standards.

As a protected heritage site under the Sabah Heritage Enactment 2017, the hall cannot undergo ordinary repairs and must follow strict conservation principles to safeguard its original architecture and historical integrity.

The Sabah Museum Department has advised DBKK on the technical documentation, scope of works, and restoration methodology required before project costs can be determined, with City Hall now in the process of applying for the necessary funding.

Jafry added that the government appreciates public concern over the landmark and emphasised that the priority remains restoring the building correctly to preserve its heritage value for future generations.
