Kota Kinabalu: The State Government approved the upgrade of Jalan Polytechnic to the J6 Roundabout, Rugading and Jalan Norowot to the J7 Roundabout to meet the growing traffic demands in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP).
“Roads are a crucial component of industrial development, so I will occasionally visit the area to observe and assess the situation,” said Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Phoong Jin Zhe.
Phoong said he would also continue to apply for sufficient allocation from time to time to upgrade the roads in the KKIP area.
He said this in a statement, here, last Saturday, after going down to the ground to personally look into the pothole-filled road condition in the KKIP area that had gone viral on social media.

“I went to the road this morning to assess the situation and was briefed by the concession company and KKIP engineer. Potholes have reportedly been filled, but it is just a temporary measure, he said.
He said that because of its proximity to the two biggest industries in KKIP – SK Nexilis and Kibing – which are now under construction and should be completed by the end of this year, the road in question is frequently damaged.
“The development of these two plants’ building is quite optimistic. Due to the rapid development, there is a lot of heavy equipment using the road.
“I did a lot of background research on the situation. I’ve told the concerned parties to be more watchful in monitoring the status of the road and to immediately repair the road if there is any damage while we wait for the factories’ construction and the road’s repaving to be completed,” he said.
He said the Sabah Government is committed to the success of the two factories.
“These two foreign investments have brought high-impact investments worth RM6.6 billion into Sabah and will create a total of 2,300 job opportunities.
“The government is confident that once these two factories are completed and start operating at the end of this year, Sabah’s export performance will increase, medium and high-skilled jobs will increase, and the GDP contribution in the industrial sector will also increase and Sabah will move towards an industrial State,” he said.
