The ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Works (KKR) to accelerate repairs on federal roads in Melaka highlights how crucial infrastructure readiness is as the state gets ready for the 2025 ASEAN Chairman's meeting and Visit Melaka Year 2024.

The ministry is addressing the urgent need for repairs across 64 locations with a sizable allocation of RM31.8 million — a critical step to guarantee safety and accessibility ahead of these important events.

Work is still ongoing at 45 of the 64 locations, while 15 have been completed, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. However, more resources and quick action are still required as a few more locations have not yet seen any repair or improvements.

He underlined again how urgent these road repairs are, especially in light of the fact that many of the roads have experienced subsidence as a result of flooding, deteriorating infrastructure and the weight of overloaded vehicles.

On a positive note, RM1.5 million has been set aside specifically for KM55 Alor Gajah road repairs, with work starting in September and finishing in October. Still, the most important issue is the prompt execution of all indicated repairs.

Additionally, as Melaka prepares to host national leaders in 2025, the state’s infrastructure will be under national and international scrutiny hence KKR’s proactive approach is essential.
