KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 46 foreigners suspected of operating gambling call centres in raids at nine locations around the capital.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said in the special Op Dadu raids, police also seized 24 laptops, 71 mobile phones, 10 modems and RM23,000 in cash.

He said preliminary investigations found that all 46 suspects admitted to being involved in online gambling activities targeting customers from China, South Korea and the Philippines.

“They had been involved in the illegal activity for between one and three months, earning an average salary of between RM2,000 and RM3,500,” he said in a statement here.

He said the suspects have been remanded for between one and 14 days to assist investigations under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

Fadil advised the public to stay away from all forms of gambling activities and to be wary of scams using call centre modus operandi.

He said information on gambling activities and scams can be channelled to the police via the Kuala Lumpur Hotline at 03-21159999 or the nearest police station.
