What is a smart city?
Smart cities are urban areas that use technology to improve the quality of life for their citizens and enhance sustainability. This can include the use of smart lighting systems, intelligent traffic management systems, and environmental efforts. To become a smart city, people need to be able to work and live there, as well as make use of its resources. Plus, most smart cities focus on the reduction of traffic congestion or have no traffic at all.
1. Singapore

Known for its cutting-edge technology and advanced infrastructure, our neighbour Singapore is widely considered one of the world's smartest cities. It has implemented a wide range of smart initiatives, including intelligent transportation systems aimed at cutting car traffic, smart energy systems, and a digital government platform.
2. Amsterdam, Netherlands
Beautiful Amsterdam is a leader in sustainable urban development, with a focus on creating a green, low-carbon city. It has implemented a number of smart initiatives, including smart lighting systems, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and a city-wide network of sensors to monitor air quality and water levels.

Will KL, Putrajaya & Labuan eventually become smart cities?
It takes great effort to become a smart city. What we truly need is people who work for the betterment of others. The government should invest in tech, and infrastructure, and develop smart city plans that include engagement with citizens and experts to ensure all perspectives are accounted for. Plus, we will need to implement green initiatives and efforts to reduce car usage, which will take a lot of research and time.
