KUALA Lumpur police expect the number of vehicles to increase almost twofold during the Chinese New Year festive season based on current analysis of daily traffic flow.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, said that currently the number of vehicles in the capital has reached about three million based on a review of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) ITIS system.

“During the festive season, this number is expected to increase almost twofold, and it is a major challenge for the police,” he said. According to him, to ensure that traffic flows smoothly, up to 400 policemen would be on duty around the clock.

“Our personnel will be on duty 24 hours a day without any gaps to ensure traffic monitoring and public safety are at the best level,” he said.

He said traffic enforcement would be enhanced to ensure the effectiveness of Op Selamat 25.

“Law enforcement must be implemented more strictly to ensure this operation has an impact on the safety of road users,” he said.

At the same time, he asked road users to obey the law and instructions from the authorities to avoid congestion and accidents. – February 13, 2026
