The top cop of Malaysia, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, emphasized that the police will not allow Klang to be likened to Colombia due to criminal activities. He stated that several operations have been carried out in Klang between January 15 and February 1 with the goal of dispelling this negative perception. Addressing reporters after a walkabout at the Pandamaran Market on Sunday, he mentioned that despite isolated incidents like a viral video of a robbery involving a real estate agent, Klang should not be labeled as "Klang bandar di Colombia." These operations targeted drug-related crimes, smuggling of migrants, and other criminal activities.
Razarudin highlighted that this year, Gombak recorded the highest crime rate, followed by Petaling Jaya and Klang Selatan, whereas last year, Gombak was followed by Kajang, Petaling Jaya, and Klang Selatan. He clarified that Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain was quoted by several portals on this matter, but he never stated that Klang was similar to a city in Colombia. Razarudin emphasized that Klang is a royal city ("Bandar Di-Raja") and not a city in Colombia.
During a townhall session at the Hokkien Association building in Klang on January 30, Comm Mohd Shuhaily expressed concern about the increasing crime rate in Klang and lamented the comparison of Klang to a city in Colombia. The townhall session became heated when he questioned how politicians approved housing and commercial projects that inadvertently caused security issues. In response to a question, Comm Shuhaily mentioned that MPs should not complain to him when police have to issue fines for illegally parked vehicles in high-density areas. Klang MP V. Ganabatirau disagreed with this statement, stating that such matters were not under the purview of lawmakers.
The heated townhall session at the Hokkien Association building in Klang on January 30 saw an exchange of views regarding the responsibility for addressing security issues in the city. Comm Mohd Shuhaily's comments about housing and commercial projects sparked debate, with some participants criticizing the approval process for these projects and its impact on security.
Klang MP V. Ganabatirau expressed disagreement with Comm Shuhaily's statement, highlighting that the management of parking violations and security matters should not be the sole responsibility of lawmakers. He emphasized the need for collaboration between the police, local authorities, and elected representatives to address these issues effectively.
The discussion also touched upon the role of MPs in advocating for better security measures and addressing the root causes of crime in Klang. Participants raised concerns about the lack of resources and support for community policing initiatives, urging greater investment in crime prevention strategies and community engagement.
Overall, the townhall session reflected the community's concerns about crime and security in Klang, as well as the need for coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and elected representatives to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
