PETALING JAYA: The Kluang Municipal Council (MPK) has shut down all its LED display screens after cyber intruders allegedly hacked the system and broadcast obscene images and videos at several locations in the district.

The incident, which circulated widely on social media and WhatsApp groups yesterday, was confirmed by MPK, which said it would lodge a police report to assist further investigations.

The council is also working with its service provider to identify how the breach occurred, restore the system and strengthen its security measures.

“MPK apologises for any inconvenience and concern caused among the people of Kluang following this incident,” it said in a statement.

Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor also confirmed that his office had received a report on the matter.

He said the council had taken immediate action by switching off all affected LED screens.

Several residents in the town centre and around the district’s lake area reportedly saw the inappropriate content, with affected locations including Dataran Tasik Kluang, Taman Intan and areas along the route towards Kahang.

Residents have called on the council to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.
