On September 11, 2024, authorities conducted raids on 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan which were associated with Global Ikhwan Services & Business Holdings (GISBH), rescuing 402 children. Reports indicated that these children were allegedly forced to engage in sexual acts with one another, a situation masked as charitable work. Following the rescue, health screenings for 392 of the children revealed evidence of both physical and emotional abuse. Alarmingly, only 2 of the 20 welfare homes were found to possess valid operating licenses from the Welfare Department. Additionally, one of the homes in Sarawak had a history of expired licenses and frequent relocations, raising further concerns about their operations and oversight.

What really happens inside the welfare homes? A recently surfaced video offers a disturbing glimpse into the situation. Pusat Kajian Ajaran Sesat Malaysia (PUKAS Malaysia) shared a video on Facebook showing a caretaker abusing a child in one of these homes. In the footage, the caretaker can be seen pressing his knee into the child's chest while repeatedly asking, “Why are you crying?” At one point, he pinches the child's nose, and multiple bruises are visible across the child's face. The video concludes with the caretaker pressing down harder and asking, “Nak mati ke? (Do you want to die?)” to which the child responds, “Tak nak (Don't want).”This shocking evidence raises serious questions about the conditions in these welfare homes and the treatment of vulnerable children within them.

The child victim in the video is identified as Uwais Qarni. According to PUKAS Malaysia, the video depicting the abuse has reached Uwais's parents. Unfortunately, they have chosen to remain silent, taking no action or filing a police report regarding the incident. Uwais's father, Zawawi Bin Ramli, and his mother, Rabaah binti Aziz (Zawawi's first wife and Uwais's mother), are both members of GISBH. They were previously founders of Rumah Amal Limpahan Kasih in Puchong and currently serve as caretakers at Rumah Kasih Nurul Hasanah in Ampang, which houses children from GISBH. Rabaah is a key figure behind the establishment of GISBH's charitable homes in Selangor.

Fortunately, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has launched an investigation into the viral video depicting child abuse. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain announced that a formal report will be filed regarding this serious matter. He emphasized, “There are many more cases of abuse. We will prepare a report to initiate an investigation into these incidents.” It is clear that the police are committed to uncovering the full extent of the alleged abuse and ensuring justice for the victims.

On the 26th of September 2024, justice is served! The abuser/suspect was identified as 23-year-old Muhammad Barur Rahim Hisam and he was sentenced to 10 years in jail for abusing several boys under his care. The sentence was handed down after Muhammad Barur Rahim Hisam pleaded guilty to four charges leveled against him. Muhammad Barur - who is a teacher and caretaker at a children's home managed by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) - was accused of using a cane and other forms of aggression to abuse the boys. The suspect will be charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

According to the facts of the case, Muhammad Barur Rahim Hisam was accused of caning two boys, aged 10 and 11, at Sekolah Rendah Islam Miftahul Hikmah in Bukit Raja, Klang, during June and July 2024. He used a cane five to six times, causing injuries to the boys. Additionally, he faced charges for caning and pressing the chest of a third victim, a nine-year-old boy (Uwais Qarni), using his knee until bruises appeared during incidents in June and September at the same location.

Judge Noridah Adam sentenced him to two years in prison for each of the first two charges and three years for each of the charges involving the third victim. “All sentences will commence from the date of arrest on September 11 and will run consecutively,” Judge Noridah stated after reviewing the prosecution's arguments during a session that lasted over an hour. The court also imposed a five-year good behavior bond on the defendant with a bail amount of RM10,000. If he fails to comply with the bond conditions, he could face an additional six months in prison for each charge.

In light of the harrowing revelations surrounding the abuse of children in GISBH charity homes, it is imperative that we remain vigilant and demand accountability. The recent raids and subsequent rescue of 402 children have exposed a deeply troubling reality that cannot be ignored. The disturbing video of Uwais Qarni serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of these children, who were subjected to unimaginable suffering under the guise of care. As investigations continue, it is crucial that authorities not only seek justice for the victims but also ensure that such abuses never happen again. The community must unite to protect our children and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Only through collective awareness and action can we hope to prevent future tragedies and foster a safer environment for all children.
