A YOUNG woman endured a frightening ordeal on Saturday night after she was chased by an unknown man believed to be armed with a knife at the car park of a shopping complex in Taman Lagenda.
The incident occurred at about 9.30pm while the 21-year-old university student was waiting in the parking area for her family members to get into their vehicle. She was accompanied by her younger sibling when the suspect, a 50-year-old man, approached them.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the suspect suddenly became aggressive, shouting and scolding the victim and her sibling while holding a knife, causing the pair to feel alarmed and fearful.
“The victim, who is the eldest of four siblings, immediately ran into the shopping mall to seek safety,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the suspect gave chase but reportedly fell during the pursuit, allowing the two siblings to escape unharmed.
Christopher said neither victim sustained any injuries. The suspect, who is from Kelemak in Alor Gajah, was arrested several hours later.
“Police also seized a knife, a shirt and a pair of trousers, and the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code,” he said.
Police have assured the public that firm action will be taken to ensure public safety and to prevent similar incidents from occurring. - February 8, 2026
