A four-hectare forest fire in Kota Bharu was brought under control by firefighters, preventing damage to nearby houses as hot weather fuelled the blaze.
KOTA BHARU: A four-hectare forest fire in Kampung Lati was successfully contained by the Fire and Rescue Department yesterday afternoon. No casualties were reported from the incident.
The Tunjong Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 3.20 pm. Personnel arrived at the scene with assistance from a water tanker from the Rantau Panjang station.
Eight personnel were involved in the firefighting operation. The blaze was brought under control by about 5 pm before operations concluded fully at 8 pm.
Operations commander Azhar Mohamed said the fire involved forested and bush areas. Swift action prevented it from spreading to nearby residential zones.
“The Fire and Rescue Department managed to save several houses located near the fire from being affected,” he said when contacted today.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Hot and dry weather is believed to have contributed to the fire’s rapid spread.
Azhar advised the public against carrying out open burning. He warned that current weather conditions increase the risk of fires, especially in forest and plantation areas.
