Kota Kinabalu: Several main roads in the city centre will be temporarily closed or diverted on Sept. 16 to facilitate the State-level Malaysia Day 2025 celebration at the Padang Merdeka.

Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said: “The public is encouraged to park their vehicles in Kampung Air and Gaya Street areas to avoid congestion on main routes.” The KFC Bandaran junction would have periodic closures, allowing only vehicles belonging to Dreamtel Hotel guests and shop owners to enter.

The Bukit Bendera three-way junction leading to Padang Merdeka would be completely closed throughout the event.

At Bunga Raya roundabout, only vehicles with protocol-issued stickers would be permitted during periodic closures.

Capital roundabout (Bandaran) would have periodic closures with VVIP vehicles allowed to proceed to bypass roundabout, while public vehicles will be diverted to Centre Point traffic lights.

However, officers have discretionary powers for members of the public needing to access Bandaran area for accommodation or business purposes.

The Dewan traffic lights will also face periodic closures to allow for parade contingent formations and movements.
