Schools in Kota Setar and Pendang resume in-person classes as temperatures drop to safer levels, ending a three-day home-based learning period.

KOTA SETAR: Schools in the Kota Setar and Pendang districts will resume face-to-face classes tomorrow.

The decision follows both districts recording Level 1 (Alert) temperature readings of between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius since yesterday.

Kedah Education Department (JPN) director Abdul Rahim Mat said the department continuously monitors readings from the Malaysian Meteorological Department before deciding on home-based teaching and learning (PdPR).

“In the past couple of days, rainfall has helped bring temperatures down to Level 1,” he told a press conference.

He explained that PdPR was conducted previously because temperatures had reached Level 2.

With the lower readings, schools will now operate as usual.

All activities will be conducted in accordance with guidelines provided to schools, parents, and students.

“Students need to be protected from the heat and encouraged to drink plenty of water,” Abdul Rahim added.

He stated that the PdPR sessions ran smoothly overall despite some students having to share devices.

“Even with these challenges, the learning process was successfully carried out,” he said.

Only the place and timing of lessons changed during the home-based learning period.

A total of 86,030 students took part in PdPR over three days starting Sunday.

This included 65,634 students from 154 schools in Kota Setar and 20,396 students from 52 schools in Pendang.
