A MAN in Kota Tinggi is suspected of killing his pregnant wife, allegedly over accusations that she was involved with another man and that the unborn child was not his.

The tragic incident occurred at their rented home in Kampung Makam, where the 34-year-old woman was found dead, covered in blood, by the property owner at around 7 a.m.

The homeowner, Atikah Sulaiman, 44, described how the suspect, aged 35, arrived at her house in the early hours of the morning calmly, holding the hand of their four-year-old daughter.

“He came as if nothing had happened, his clothes clean, no trace of blood. He even drank from a juice box with his child,” Atikah said.

“He told my husband that he wanted to report his wife for having another man and claimed that the seven-month-old baby in her womb was not his.

“When my husband asked where his wife was, he said, ‘She’s in the room, I have already killed her.’

At first, we thought he was joking. Then my husband went to their house and found her covered in blood and lifeless.”

The couple had rented the property for five years and shared a young daughter. Atikah explained that the suspect and his wife had recently returned to the home after visiting Kuala Lumpur for follow-up treatment for the man’s mental health issues.

“Previously he worked as a barber, but after returning here he has not been employed. The wife had informed my husband that he had mental health problems, which is why they sought treatment in Kuala Lumpur. During their stay here, he never caused trouble.

The wife was a good person, and they always paid their rent on time. Neighbours did not hear any arguments or unusual noises this morning,” she said.

Atikah added that her husband immediately reported the matter to the police, and the suspect surrendered upon the officers’ arrival.

Superintendent Yusof Othman, Chief of Police for Kota Tinggi District, said the victim, of Rohingya ethnicity, was found deceased inside the rental home at approximately 3 a.m., with head injuries.

“Initial investigations indicate that the victim sustained severe head injuries from a blunt object, believed to be a mortar,” he said. “Acting on the information, police apprehended a 35-year-old Rohingya man near the scene at 7.30 a.m. Further investigations are ongoing, including establishing the true motive of the crime. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.” - February 13, 2026
