Miroslav Koubek has left as Czech Republic coach after their group-stage exit at the World Cup, the Czech football association said on Monday.

A statement said both sides had agreed to end their cooperation.

The 74-year-old levelled serious accusations against the domestic press.

"My decision was also influenced by the media campaign which was based on a series of half-truths and inventions against me," he wrote in the statement.

Immediately after the 3-0 loss against co-hosts Mexico in their final group match, Koubek had ruled out resigning.

"I have a contract and I never give up," he said. "I am not even thinking about that."

But the situation changed after talks with the association and following media calls for him to go.

Koubek had coached the Czechs since December last year and led the team through the play-offs to their first World Cup appearance in 20 years.
