KUALA LUMPUR - The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) has received an allocation of RM300 million to establish agricultural project collaborations with state governments.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that this budget sees an increase of RM150 million for the ministry due to its demonstrated commitment.
“One of the significant weaknesses currently is our over-dependence on food imports, despite having fertile land and the capacity to enhance the country's food security.
“We commend the ministry for its dedication in this area, and therefore, we are increasing the allocation to RM300 million for agricultural project collaborations with state governments, adding to the RM150 million from this year.
“This includes onion production in Perak, red tilapia farming in Pahang, and increased rice yields in Negeri Sembilan,” he said.
He made these remarks while presenting the Malaysia Madani 2025 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday.
Anwar further revealed that the government, along with private bodies, will utilise nearly 3,561 hectares of idle land owned by development boards and network agencies.
He clarified that this is aimed at executing agricultural projects such as organic chicken farming and cattle breeding.
