The Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) state by-election, which commenced at 8 am, wrapped up at 6 pm with the closure of all 18 polling centers. The only exception was Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Bukit Fraser, which served just 40 voters and closed its doors at 2 pm. This marked the culmination of voting activities across 74 streams, with all ballot boxes subsequently transported to Dewan Serbaguna and Kompleks Sukan Daerah Hulu Selangor for the crucial tallying process.
Anticipation soared as the clock ticked towards the expected announcement of official results, slated for as early as 9 pm. An eligible voting populace of 39,269 individuals participated in today's democratic exercise.
Earlier in the week, a significant turnout of 97 percent among police, military personnel, and their spouses was noted during the early voting phase. This process unfolded seamlessly across two designated centers, namely the Signals Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division at Camp Erskine and Dewan Serbaguna Maktab Polis Diraja Malaysia, each equipped with three polling streams.
Despite the variable weather conditions that transitioned from fair in the morning to rainy in the afternoon, the polling process remained devoid of any untoward incidents, ensuring a smooth electoral procedure.
The by-election, featuring a competitive four-cornered contest, witnessed active participation from Pang Sock Tao representing Pakatan Harapan, Khairul Azhari Saut from Perikatan Nasional, Hafizah Zainuddin of Parti Rakyat Malaysia, and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin. The vacancy arose following the unfortunate demise of incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, aged 58 and affiliated with DAP, on March 21 due to cancer-related complications.
This by-election not only underscores the democratic spirit of the constituency but also serves as a platform for candidates to articulate their visions and engage with the electorate on critical issues facing the region. As the counting process commences, all eyes are on the imminent announcement of the victor who will carry forward the responsibilities and aspirations of the constituents of Kuala Kubu Baharu.
