SEVERAL major thoroughfares in the heart of Kuala Lumpur will be temporarily closed today to accommodate the 2026 MotoGP Season Launch, organisers and authorities confirmed.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, chief of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would implement staged closures from 2 pm until midnight to ensure the event runs smoothly and to safeguard both road users and the public.

He specified that Jalan Ampang will be fully closed on entry and exit routes from the Jalan P. Ramlee and Yap Kwan Seng intersections to the Jalan Mayang intersection. In addition, entry from the Jalan P. Ramlee intersection to Jalan Persiaran KLCC will also be restricted.

“The full closure of Jalan P. Ramlee near KLCC will affect the stretch from the Jalan Ampang intersection to the Jalan Pinang intersection,” ACP Mohd Zamzuri said in a statement yesterday.

Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, consider alternative routes, and comply with directions from police and traffic officers stationed along the affected roads.

“The launch of the 2026 MotoGP season across the iconic landscape of Kuala Lumpur city not only marks the start of the world’s prestigious motorsports season but also aims to promote Kuala Lumpur as a modern, dynamic and competitive global destination,” he said.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri added that the Royal Malaysia Police seek the public’s cooperation and understanding for any inconvenience caused by the temporary road closures, emphasising safety and order as the primary concern.

Authorities expect the high-profile event to draw significant crowds, and the staged closures have been carefully coordinated to minimise disruption while supporting the global launch of the motorsport season. - February7, 2026
