Delivery rider in Kuantan pleads not guilty to six cheating charges over fake QR payment displays used to buy items worth RM356.50.
KUANTAN: A delivery rider pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to six charges of cheating by using fake quick response (QR) code payment transaction displays to purchase various items totalling RM356.50 earlier this year.
The accused, Mohammad Ruzaini Ruzi, 26, made the plea after all the charges were read out before Magistrate Ellyna Othman.
According to the charges, the man allegedly deceived two individuals by showing QR payment transaction displays for amounts ranging from RM36.40 to RM67.20 that did not correspond with the actual transactions, to purchase cigarettes, food and beverages.
Mohammad Ruzaini allegedly committed the offences at a petrol station here between Jan 19 and Feb 3.
The charges were framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than 10 years, as well as whipping and a fine.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors B. Deevagaran Naidu and Danial Wafi Mohd, while the accused was represented by lawyer Datuk Syed Azimal Amir Syed Abu Bakar.
The court allowed the accused bail of RM12,000 for all charges and set Sept 25 for case mention.
