A WOMAN and her young daughter were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a house in Taman Perak in Kulim, yesterday.

Kulim District Police Chief, Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan said police received a distress call from the public at 11.05 pm yesterday.

He said, following this, a team of police officers from the Kulim Hi-Tech Police Station rushed to the location which was a low-cost one-storey terrace house with three rooms.

"Checks revealed the bodies of the 30-year-old woman factory worker hanging from a fan in the bedroom and her four-year-old daughter dead in the first room on a mattress," he said.

A seven-year-old boy - the woman's son - survived but was found with marks on his neck and injuries to his jaw.

Zulkifli said initial investigations found that the woman was experiencing emotional stress after being disappointed with her boyfriend who was allegedly having an affair with another woman.

"The note left behind stated an apology to all parties and that she was unable to bear the hurt.

"In addition, she also stated that her children could not live with anyone and that is why she 'had to take them with her,'" he said.

Zulkifli said preliminary investigation suggests the woman attempted to kill both children before taking her own life, believed to be driven by emotional distress linked to a relationship dispute.

"There was an aluminium ladder near the mother's feet," he said.

Zulkifli said the incident came to light after a neighbour heard the boy's screams and saw the woman hanging from a ceiling fan through the window.

He said the neighbor then immediately called the police and asked the victim to open the door of the house, which was locked from the inside.

"Further examination found no signs of break-in or intrusion at the scene.

"The bodies of the deceased were sent to the Forensic Department of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar for a post-mortem," he said.

Zulkifli said the deceased's seven-year-old son, who survived is currently receiving treatment at the Kulim Hospital.

He said that apart from the discovery of the handwritten note, his party also found the MyKads of the three children and the deceased's automatic teller machine (ATM) card placed nearby.

"The case is being investigated under Section 302 and Section 307 of the Penal Code for murder and attempted murder," he said. – November 5, 2025
