Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the nearly ten-hour assault as one of the most intense, involving 18 missiles and around 400 strike drones.

Fires broke out across the capital, damaging homes, warehouses and office buildings.

Thousands sheltered in metro stations, including over 1,000 people at the Polytechnic Institute stop.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed falling debris caused fires in several districts, as rescue crews worked through the aftermath.
