MANILA, Philippines — A student from La Salle Greenhills in San Juan alarmed the school after saying in a group chat that he was a shooter, prompting management to switch to synchronous or online classes.
The "security threat" was initially not specified by the school but said it has identified the “source.”
Mandaluyong Police shortly after confirmed that the threat came from a student who posted in a group chat that was quickly reported by the students, reaching their parents and school administration who swiftly called authorities.
“Yung specific threat nagsabi lang po, nagpost sa Facebook na siya daw ay shooter. Ganun po ang pagkakasabi niya naka highlight po ‘yung term na shooter (The specific threat mentioned it, posted on Facebook that he was a shooter),” Col. Ray Patam, Mandaluyong City police chief, told reporters in an interview.
He, however, clarified that there was no specific threat of shooting from the student. School officials, Patam said, have reached out to the parents of the student who are set to confer with school authorities, as well as police officials on the matter.
Patam said police have been deployed to the school since Wednesday night upon coordination with management.
In an advisory posted on Wednesday night, the La Salle Greenhills administration said, “All classes from Preschool to Grade 12, including IB (International Baccalaureate) and Alternative Education, will be conducted online synchronously tomorrow as a precautionary measure.”
