MANILA, Philippines — A labor group on Sunday called for a dialogue with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as it urged him to certify as urgent a proposed P200 nationwide wage increase.
In a statement, the Nagkaisa! Labor Coalition asked Marcos to meet with workers and their unions, saying it had repeatedly sought a dialogue with the President.
"If the P85 increase that already went through the Wage Board can still be held up in court, then a legislated wage hike is all the more timely. The high cost of rice, electricity and transportation is national — hunger is not regional," the group said in Filipino and English.
Its members and allied labor groups will return to the Supreme Court on Monday to seek immediate action on the P60 wage hike, Nagkaisa! Said.
The group said that it will file a manifestation together with allied labor organizations, Kamanggagawa Party-List and Workers and Peasants’ Party, asking the high court to immediately act on their petition for certiorari and prohibition filed last week.
Nagkaisa maintained that the RTC cannot stop a wage order issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board.
