
Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old labourer was sentenced to five months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court for assaulting a woman.
Almin Tajuli pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to voluntarily causing hurt to Nor Fadilah Sanday on Aug 17 at 11.30pm at Kg Numbak, Manggatal.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine, or both upon conviction.
According to the prosecution, a police report was lodged by the victim’s grandfather on the same night, alleging that Nor had been assaulted by a man believed to be a drug addict. She sustained a cut above her right eyebrow.
Almin was arrested shortly after, at 12.05am on Aug 18.
In a separate court, a 56-year-old man claimed trial to a similar charge.
Teng Nyuk Win pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to voluntarily causing hurt to Monnie Joikim on Aug 16 at 10.52am in front of the CKS supermarket at Inanam Business Centre.
The court fixed Oct 17 for pre-trial case management and granted Teng bail of RM1,800 in two sureties.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old forklift operator also claimed trial to assaulting his wife.
Zul Hazmi Saripin was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to his 42-year-old wife on Aug 17 at 1pm at their home in Kg Tebobon, Manggatal.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, which provides for enhanced punishment when the offence involves a spouse, former spouse, child, or incapacitated person. The penalty under Section 326A is double the maximum sentence of the original offence.
The court set Sept 2 for mention and released Zul on bail of RM1,000 in one surety.
