LABUAN: The Labuan chapter of the Malaysian Consumer Claims Tribunal (TTPM) on Tuesday issued six awards totalling RM43,184 to consumers following the hearing of seven consumer claims filed at the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) office here.
KPDN Labuan Director Junaidah Arbain said the hearing chaired by TTPM President Salmi Zalinah Abdul Rahim involved five claims under the services category and two claims under the goods category.
“Of the five service-related claims, one involved residential electrical wiring services, while four concerned umrah and haj packages.
“The two goods-related claims involved disputes over the purchase of household furniture and the supply of cement, respectively,” she said.
Junaidah said following the hearings, TTPM issued six awards totalling RM43,184 to the claimants, while the hearing of one other case was adjourned.
She said one Form 10 award amounting to RM805 was issued for the claim involving residential electrical wiring services.
“Two Form 8 awards totalling RM22,899 involved the purchase of household furniture and house construction services, while three Form 9 awards involved refunds totalling RM19,480 for claims related to umrah and haj packages,” she said.
Junaidah said the issuance of the awards constituted orders of the Tribunal and must be complied with by the respective parties as determined during the hearings.
She said as of Sept 29, a total of 20 consumer claims had been filed with Labuan TTPM, involving total claims amounting to RM128,585.91.
“Of this amount, the total value of awards issued to consumers stands at RM101,768,” she said.
Junaidah advised members of the public to remain vigilant and conduct thorough checks before making any payment transactions, particularly for high-value goods or services.
“Consumers who encounter unethical traders or receive products that do not meet the specified requirements are urged not to remain silent, but instead seek redress through recognised channels.
“TTPM remains committed to safeguarding consumer interests in line with its role in providing an alternative avenue for consumers to seek redress in relation to the purchase of goods or services in an easy, affordable and speedy manner,” she said.
